The trial of Hashem Hussein Panahi, a Kurdish religious activist, was held at Special Clerical Court on Sept 18, 2018.

According to Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), Hashem Hussein Panahi was summoned to the Hamedan Special Clerical Court through a telephone call on September 13. Today, his trial was held at the aforementioned court where the judge briefed him on the alleged charges of “propaganda against the state” and “Disturbing public opinion”. One of the Hussein Panahi’s charges is attending the funeral ceremony of Ramin Hossein Panahi, the political prisoner.

After being briefed, this religious activist was temporarily released on a bail of 30 Million Tomans until the trial. He was previously detained by Sanandaj Intelligence Bureau in September 2012 for one month and sentenced to 30 lashes and 6 months of imprisonment on Sept 10, 2013, after being summoned to the Special Clerical Court of Tehran. Hashim Hossein Panahi is one of the authorities of the ‘Popular Office of Religious Governor’ of the Kurdistan province. He is also a former employee of the Judiciary with 12 years of experience who was dismissed in 2010 due to religious activities.
