On Tuesday, November 14, a Kurdish political prisoner known as Khezr Rasoul Morovat, was released from Miandoab Prison after serving five years in prison.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network(KHRN) has been informed that this political prisoner and former student activist has been deprived of the right of furlough for five years and illegally exiled to various prisons several times. Last week, one of his fellow political prisoners known as Faroq Samani was released after a spending five-year in Mahabad Prison.

Khezr Rasulmortu, a Mahabad activist, was arrested on March 13, 2012, following a rally in support of Shin Abad students in front of Ministry of Education & Training in Mahabad and was interrogated for three months at the Mahabad and Ourmiyeh Intelligence Detention Centres.

The above-mentioned political prisoner was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment on charges of acting against national security at Mahabad Revolutionary Court (Branch 1) headed by Judge Javadi kia in October. The verdict was affirmed by the Appeal Court (Branch 10) a month later on Dec 18.

He was exiled to Orumiyeh Prison on March 8, 2014, but was transferred back to Mahabad Prison in April 2014. Pressures against the Kurdish political prisoner continued and he was deported to Miandoab prison on Sunday, Sept 11, 2016, following an order issued by the prosecutor’s office and the head of the Mahabad Prison. During the transfer, he was handcuffed and shackled in addition to being insulted by the officers of the admissions department.

The civil activist was also arrested in August of 1999 and sentenced to three years of imprisonment in addition to five years of suspended imprisonment by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court. He was released from prison after spending two years in prison. After his release, he passed the entrance examination to study at Master Level but he was deprived of Furthering his education.
